Director Communication

Communicating with people and understanding their wants and needs is something I learnt whilst a student. Even back then, I was already earning my money by working for a diversity of retail chains. It set the tone for my later marketing and sales passion.

After graduating, I worked for UPC Netherlands (United Pan-European Communications, 2000-2004). There  I initiated and conceptualised the Dealernet, an online software programme that enables UPC employees and resellers to enter new orders online. This software project was later introduced and today is still being used by UPC all across Europe. In addition to this exciting outcome, the project itself also made me understand the vital importance of solid research and planning, and the absolute necessity to do so before moving on to a software development stage.

My move to Australia, the resultant of work with an Australian airline company (2004-2008), meant the beginning of the development of a flight planning and communications tool. I was asked to develop this by the airline company. It gave me a realistic insight into the complexity of airline communication systems and drew me to the conclusion that I needed a more solid understanding of project management techniques and therefore decided to follow the PMP course.

After my return to the Netherlands in 2008 I developed Cart2Quote, an eCommerce software product and by the end of 2009 I managed several eCommerce projects for various companies.

"These days communication has shifted towards the web. People orientate and decide online. Where before an organisation would create an image by their office buildings, employees and offline media advertising, today people incline to create an image of organisations by its online presence."

I especially enjoy listening and understanding to the communication objectives of organisations and translate these challenges onto a solid online communication plan.

I therefore joined PMI and the Board of Directors and will aim to 1. further built the online identity of PMI Netherlands Chapter, 2. attract new members and 3. deepen the involvement of the current members.
