2011-09-13 Experiencing project Leadership

On behalf of the PMI Netherlands Chapter I am pleased to invite you to the September Euregio Chapter meeting about “Project Leadership” facilitated by APG Group in Heerlen, The Netherlands.

“Projects often fall short of achieving their anticipated results, not due to a lack of project management, but rather from a lack of project leadership. Because project success is a direct reflection of the project manager, it is his or her responsibility not just to manage the details and report status of a project, but to go beyond and add value through providing leadership. Project managers can no longer update task lists and issue meeting minutes if they are to succeed.”[Smith GR via google keywords leadership in projectmanagement]. During this event we will experience how we can turn ourselves from today’s project manager into tomorrow’s project leader. It will not happen during this event but it might give you just that food for thought you need to start your personal journey. Join this PMI Euregio Meeting initiated by the PMI Netherlands Chapter, and listen, participate, experience and learn!

The Program for this Event is:

17:00   Registration and sandwiches

18:10   Opening and welcome by Jan Cardol, CEO, PMI Netherlands Chapter

18:15   Opening and welcome by Jo Savelkoul, Manager ‘Competence Center Projectmanagement’ at APG

18:30   Experiencing Project Leadership – part 1, the journey starts,
Chantal Savelsbergh and Peter Storm (Kennis & Co)

“True leaders don’t force people to follow, they invite them for a journey” (Charles S. Laucer)

Chantal Savelsbergh and Peter Storm will inspire us with the journeys of project managers growing towards leadership. They will share these stories with you as they were shared with them. Real stories from real people, project managers like you and me.

“All important things in life can’t be taught, but they can be learned” (Oscar Wilde).

The stories will show what these project managers learned about leadership in practice and how this changed their view on what the ‘reason for being’ of a project manager is.

During the session participants will be invited to share their experiences and views on project leadership. In addition the stories and shared experiences will be flavored with some ideas from the theory of leadership. Especially with regard to the question of why leadership is so important in our contemporary projects.

During this event we will be lead and inspired by Chantal Savelsbergh and Peter Storm who professionally coach project leaders and project teams. They are also involved in a PMI sponsored research program on how to improve the learning capabilities of project teams.
