2011-04-12 Project Management in a Virtual World
You can view/download the presentations here.
Working in virtual teams is a fact of today’s way of work enforced by globalization, “het nieuwe werken (the new way of working)” and other social developments. Project Managers are used to and trained in developing winning teams by bringing teams together in the same geographical location. That is no longer doable nor preferred from a cost and efficiency perspective. Future leaders are able to create virtual winning teams. That is changing everything Project Managers learned and practiced and most likely requires other skills to be developed. Join this PMI Netherlands Chapter meeting and explore ways to strengthen and develop virtual teams. This event about Project Management in a Virtual World is facilitated by Philips IT Applications and will be held on
April 12th, 2011 at the Strip Auditorium, High Tech Campus in Eindhoven.

18:40 Strengthening Virtual Teams by Thomas Swaak (Philips IT)
At Philips, we have enthusiastic, smart people in over 60 countries working together in virtual teams, making things happen. As part of our journey towards excellence in Philips IT, we have designed a special program, which is partially web-based to strengthen virtual teams. From the start up, to communication, performance management, engagement to cultural diversity, we have cut a path that can help individual teams grow in the way they work together. The program also shows us that there are about as many myths about virtual teams as there are pitfalls and constructive insights. I look forward to exploring them with you.

Thomas Swaak is an organizational Change Management expert in charge of the Change Support Office for Philips IT. The focus of the office is to help identify people/organizational impacts caused by programs and projects, and to provide solutions/frameworks to resolve them. Engagement is also an important focus area, focusing on the key engagement themes that are important to our community and helping to share best practices and workable approaches.
19:30 Break
19:50 Developing Virtual Teams by Angela van de Loo (Target Point International)
Motivating people to work together effectively & collaboratively is one of the main challenges in today’s organizations. It is do-able; the Drexler-Sibbet Team Performance Model shows how. It illustrates team development as 7 stages; 4 to create a team and 3 to describe levels of performance (sustain team). How to pass a stage? Resolved as well as unresolved behaviors can indicate what stage has been reached. Of course virtual teams sometimes face an extra challenge; how to cope with that? Do you know your personal preference when it comes to ‘trust building’ and are you aware of your impact on your team members? Willing to take a deep dive and explore this? I am on!

Angela van de Loo is an organizational Change Management expert and owner/founder of Target Point International. The focus of Target Point is to help people and organizations to implement changes that impact attitude and behaviors. Target Point therefore provides metrics, concepts, training programs, coaching & consultancy. It developed Changepedia – a wikipedia on change for HR and other professionals. Instilling a winning performance culture within teams & business units is what Target Point is known for.
